A New Year

Happy New Year.

January always has a way of sharpening things. The noise drops slightly, the calendar resets, and what matters - or might matter - comes into clearer focus. The art world feels particularly poised right now. Less certain, perhaps, but also more honest. Fewer grand gestures and more attention to what might actually last.

There are a few things I wanted to flag as we move into the year.

In a couple of months, we’ll be publishing a book dedicated to the works on paper of Clyde Hopkins - a focused, long-overdue look at a body of work that sits at the heart of his practice. It’s a project I care deeply about and one that feels timely, not nostalgic – a reminder of how serious, thoughtful paintings hold their ground over decades.

Alongside this, my Substack continues to develop as a space for longer-form writing about collecting, artists, and the mechanics (and ethics) of the art world. Some of those essays, along with pieces for Plaster Magazine, are now being adapted into video essays on YouTube… for those who prefer to listen rather than read. It’s an experiment in form rather than a change in substance.

I’ve also begun listing a carefully curated selection of works on paper and publications on the website - modest, thoughtful work that can live properly in people’s lives rather than just pass through them.

As ever, I look forward to working more closely with some of you this year – whether that’s through conversations, projects, or helping you find work that makes sense to live with now, not just admire briefly. If you’re interested in being on my collector’s list then get in touch. Or if you’d prefer a quieter involvement, then subscribe to my paid Substack to receive a monthly review of suggested works.

Thank you, as always, for reading.
